AirTag tips: luggage, bikes and keys
How we use AirTags when traveling, and the settings that avoid false alarms and drained batteries.
An AirTag in a checked bag has become standard travel kit for our team. Here is how to get the most out of them.
Luggage
Put the AirTag inside the bag, not on a handle where it can be torn off. Airlines increasingly accept shared item locations when you report a delayed bag, and you can share an AirTag’s location with a link from the Find My app.
Bikes
Hide it under the saddle or in a bottle-cage mount. Remember that anti-stalking alerts can notify a thief that an unknown AirTag is moving with them — it helps recovery more than prevention.
Keys and wallets
Precision Finding with Ultra Wideband points you to the exact couch cushion. A key ring holder is needed; the AirTag has no hole of its own.
Battery
The CR2032 coin cell lasts about a year. Avoid cells with bitter coating designed for child safety; some do not make contact properly.
