Vision Pro, a year later: what we still use it for
After the novelty wore off, three things kept us coming back. Everything else gathered dust.
A year after buying Apple Vision Pro, our headset no longer lives on the desk. It lives in a drawer, and it comes out for three specific reasons.
1. Movies on planes and in hotels
Watching a film on a cinema-sized screen in an economy seat is still the most impressive thing it does. The picture quality is excellent and the audio is surprisingly good.
2. A huge Mac display
Mac Virtual Display has become genuinely useful, especially the ultrawide mode. For a focused writing session in a small room, it is a great tool.
3. Spatial photos of family
Spatial videos and photos of our kids have become something we revisit. It is hard to describe until you see it.
What we stopped doing
Working in visionOS apps for hours, FaceTime with the Persona, and most games. The headset is simply too heavy for long sessions, and the app library is still small.
What we like
- Incredible displays
- Great for movies
- Useful as a Mac display
What we don’t
- Heavy
- Expensive
- Small app library
